This is the original, foam core dummy designed by Hallmark and performance proven by professional and amateur dog trainers since 1973. The inner foam cylinder has just the right amount of “give” for a natural feel in the dog’s mouth and holds scent the best. A non-toxic, weighted core makes the dummy easier to throw. 

 

In training a young dog, it is very important to build confidence. You use a white dummy to make it easier for him to see. As the dog grows and his confidence increases you want to build his nose. You use a dark dummy which blends with the background and forces him to use his nose to find it. The blaze orange is only an aid for the handler in training for blind retrieves. Dogs are color blind and will not be able to distinguish the dummy from surrounding vegetation. It is very important to train both sight and smell because in hunting situations you want your dog to use his eyes to mark the fall and his nose to find the bird.
